Christine Young: Exclusive Excerpt Highland Magic

Today, I'm hosting Christine Young, an author who hails from Medford, a town where I have family, and who writes romance set in the Scottish Highlands. You couldn't top that, or could you?

How about an exclusive excerpt? Just here. On my little blog. Yup!

Here goes...

Highland Magic

by Christine Young

BLURB:

Throughout the Highlands she is known as Keely, the witch woman. She is a great healer-a woman whose dreams come true. Ian MacPherson is a man who puts honor, loyalty and duty above everything. Their lives are entwined when Ian is sent by the Scottish King to bring Keely to trial for witchcraft. He is attacked and left for dead, but Keely rescues him.

When he wakes, he discovers he has no memory. As he remembers his lost past, Ian finds that his need to protect the woman who has saved his life eclipses his duty to his king and country. He is a man torn between honor and duty to his country and the woman he loves.

EXCERPT:

They walked into a clearing surrounded by dense woods. Liam pointed northward toward a small paddock area. "Here we are. The horse is beyond. Ye are welcome to take him out of here any time ye wish."

Ian strode to the fenced in yard. The animal heard their approach, whinnied and ran forward as if sensing something was about to change. The horse was magnificent and when the stallion saw his master, he reared his head, stopping, hesitating for a moment only before he galloped even faster toward the man who raised him. Ian held out his hand and the horse nuzzled his palm as if looking for treats.

"Aingealag." Ian knew the horse, remembered him and he felt as if a great weight was suddenly lifted from his shoulders. "Aingealag," he repeated and the horse nickered softly.

"Angel?" Liam's mouth puckered in what appeared to be sour disbelief. "'Tis no angel here. He has terrified all who I sent to care for him. Chased anyone who entered this yard. He is the devil's spawn."

"Aingealag." Ian repeated the name again, rolling the memories around in his head. The stallion leaned into the offered hand while Ian petted him with apparent delight at having found his master.

Liam shook his head in wonder. He had taken care of the beast since he'd found him in the meadow the morning Ian had been attacked. He'd vowed to train the stallion and sell him in Edinburgh for a tidy sum, but the stallion had proved untamable. Yet here was proof he was wrong.

"Well, he would only be an angel for ye." Liam scratched his unkempt beard, still disbelieving the scene before him.

  4. Thank you for hosting Highland Magic today. So you are from Medford too? Hmm... could we know each other?

Aingealag is Irish and it means angel. Of course this horse is only an angel for Ian.

Thanks to Mary and Catherine for commenting and following this tour.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day.

    Now I'm dieting. LOL

    1. Christine, it's been a pleasure having you on board.

I'm not from Medford but I have an aunt living there whom I visited a couple of years ago. I mostly remember a lovely small cafe, quite unusual, in one of the side streets. Fabulous tea!

  8. Neither can I. My family and I visited in 2007. We stayed at a resort by Loch Rannoch. It was so idyllic and beautiful. I have tons of wonderful pictures.

    1. Pictures can revive wonderful memories. They make a brilliant backdrop for your writing, filling it with much detail. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You stayed in a stunning area.

We're heading up north to Loch Ness again next month to visit my in-laws. I love the Highlands.
