Review: Redeeming the Reclusive Earl by Virginia Heath
Who doesn’t yearn for a bit of escapism at the moment, with all the tragic news around us? And what better place to escape to than right into the world of romantic fiction!
And I know just the novel to escape with: Redeeming the Reclusive Earl by Virginia Heath!
I have enjoyed reading novels by Virginia Heath before, and Redeeming the Reclusive Earl was a fabulous read, as expected.
The recluse in question is Max who has recently inherited the earldom and estate of Rivenhall. Scarred by an event in his past as a Navy Captain, he does not suffer trespassers on his grounds lightly. But when he encounters Effie, a young independent woman keen to make her name in the world of archaeology, digging holes in his property, it all becomes too much. He orders her to stop. But Effie isn’t a shy wallflower – she’s a woman who speaks her mind and shows her intelligence, which explains her unmarried status. And she is desperate to continue with her dig.
I must admit that I found Effie challenging at first, and I found myself on Max’s side. However, as Effie’s intentions to continue her work become clear and she begins to care for her host, a bond between them begins to grow that neither side is able to break.
The characterisation in Redeeming the Reclusive Earl is well conceived. Brainy Effie is a great match for Max’s arrogance. She doesn’t suffer fools lightly, fortunately for them both. He is drawn into her passion for history and ends up helping her with her digs. All the while, Effie’s well-meant bluntness chips away at Max’s self-imposed wall. Can she break through it?
Redeeming the Reclusive Earl is a charming, warm and sweet romance. Highly recommended.

Author Bio:
When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending.
Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.
