Emma Lai at My Place

Today, I'm delighted to welcome romance author Emma Lai to My Place, where she shares details about her exciting range of releases with us.

Emma says:

I’m a romance author who writes everything from the sweet to the erotic, from the historical to the contemporary, from the paranormal to the normal. My latest releases are two stories in a contemporary erotic romance anthology. The premise?

Have you ever had that secret fantasy? The secret fantasy or hooking up with someone, no strings attached. Has the best man, caterer or another guest at a wedding caught your eye and triggered the “what if” question? In a situation where love, romance and sex abound, three authors present six short stories about just that.

My Place:

While I live in Houston, TX, my stories are not only set locally, but throughout the world and even space. :)

The Final Dance is set in Richmond, VA. I lived there for a little over a year and loved the history that permeated the entire city and surrounding areas. Though I will admit that since the story is short, I didn’t get to explore the richness of the setting.

Letting Memories Go is set in Corpus Christi, TX. Corpus is a nice coastal Texas city that I’ve had the pleasure of visiting once.

Blurb:

The Final Dance by Emma Lai
Ashley Beaufort’s duties as maid of honor take her back to the ballroom after all the guests have left, but the bride’s shoes aren’t the only things waiting for her, and she gets the chance to live out a fantasy with a her favorite country-western singer.

Buttercreamed by Sandra Sookoo
Kyle Morrison is a cocky cake decorator with an ego to match his talent.  If there’s one thing he likes more than seeing a bridal couple enjoying his creations, it’s hooking up with a willing woman at a wedding.
When he’s propositioned by Paige, who’s also a fan of his work, how can he resist such a sweet challenge?  Sex in a work room is more than icing on the cake.

Unexpected Gift by Marie Tuhart
Most men can't handle Sabrina Orin’s job as a doctor since the hours can be 24/7, but she still has needs. What better way to satisfy them than to hook up with a hot guest at a wedding?
Ryan Caine never expected to find a woman at the wedding he’d want to hook up with, and when Sabrina agrees to go to his room with him, he finds he doesn't want to let her go, but she's gone when he wakes in the morning. What’s a man to do?

Letting Memories Go by Emma Lai
After seeing John Cabot, her first love, over spring break, Liza Chambers realizes she needs to let some memories go before she can move forward. She seizes the opportunity at his sister’s wedding to put the past behind her. Will her actions rekindle their old flame, or only create more bittersweet memories?

Proper Women Don’t by Sandra Sookoo
Delia Latham’s back in Savannah for a friend’s wedding. Though she’s moved away from the life of tradition and snobbery, she’s always needed to tell her old beau—Chase—goodbye.
When Chase and his friend Jarod catch Delia unawares while she’s skinny dipping late at night, how can she refuse when he suggests a three-way hook-up?  Proper women don’t do such things.  Good thing she’s not one of them.

Unexpected Surprise by Marie Tuhart
Eric Montgomery has had the hots for his best friend’s fiancee’s maid of honor for months. When he finds her in his hotel room and his bed, he thinks the gods are granting him a gift.
Close proximity to the sexy best man has left Marina Landers desperate for release, and when Eric appears in her hotel bedroom, she seizes the opportunity to find out if the rumors about his domineering ways are true.
They have a wild night of kinky sex, both thinking when morning arrives, they'll go their separate ways, but things don't go quite as planned.

  1. Welcome to My Place, Emma! Fabulous to have you here. :-)

  2. Thanks for sharing your place with me, Cathie! I realized I didn't share much about any of the places, so if anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Hubby and I generally experience a place through the food they have and don't necessarily do sight seeing, but that's not to say I don't have unusual stories to share about the places. It's amazing what can happen just walking down a street or driving down a road. :)

  3. I used to hate Houston until I moved away and realized we have some of the best restaurants in the country, right up there with restaurants in New York City, San Francisco and Miami. (All places I've been.)

Richmond, VA surprised me with the number of Asian-fusion restaurants. There were a couple of restaurants that we'd go to when we got homesick for my mother's cooking. Richmond's an odd little city in my opinion, but it had some interesting history, of course. We visited an island in the James River that housed Union prisoners and looked at a tobacco warehouse that was converted into a loft, but it gave me the willies because it too had been a prison for Union soldiers.

Corpus Christi was a surprise. It's a city right on the Gulf of Mexico, has a pretty nice beach and is a quick drive to Padres Island. Very nice place to just go and kick back. Decent seafood restaurants too, of course.

    1. Oh, I love seafood. Lucky enough to get decent stuff here in Edinburgh. Tastes so much better fresh.

    2. I'd like to go to Edinburgh...during the summer.

    3. It's buzzing in the summer. You have lots of festivals, too: Book Fest, International & Fringe festivals. Great atmosphere - though be prepared for any sort of weather...

    4. Maybe I'll have to plan a business trip there next year...

  4. Waving hello to two of my most favorite girls!! I forget you live in Texas, Emma - lordy, the weather must be the other end of the spectrum compared to the UK :)

Great to hear about the places your stories are set and I always like to know about great restaurants - seafood is my complete weakness. From scallops to seabass, I love the lot!

Must download this one to my Kindle right now - three of the best writers erotic romance has to offer, in my opinion!

  5. Hey, Emma,

So talented. I have to ask...Which is your favorite genre to write and why?

    1. Tough question. I write a variety of genres to keep life interesting. I love historicals, but sometimes the research required is daunting. I love contemporaries, but sometimes I need to escape the current world. I love fantasy/paranormal, but sometimes the challenge of creating a new world is overwhelming. I like writing erotic, but let's face it, sometimes the mood's just not quite right.

I guess while many of my published titles are contemporary erotic, it's just because it takes me longer to historical and paranormal. And like any author, all my titles are my babies and they each have a special place in my heart. :)

  6. This anthology sounds terrifc. I need to buy it. As soon as I find my Kindle. I know so many writers who live in Texas. There's a lot to write about there. Do you enjoy writing about one place in particular?

    1. I try to set my contemporaries in places I've been, though one of the titles in Hooked Up Over Spring Break, Island Exploration, was set on a Caribbean island. Never been to one, though I would like to. Writing that story was my personal spring break this year. :)

I do like writing about Houston in my contemporaries. I think a lot of people don't realize just how much the city has to offer. I also like writing pieces in historical England...my own particular obsession. I have a mini-library of historical books dedicated to the period betwen 1750 and 1900. :)

  7. I've never tried the short story route, yet. Do you prefer that to a full length novel?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm not sure I have what it takes to crank out only full-length novels. It's not quite the way my brain works. It's taken me three years to get my full-length to the a near-ready publication state. During that time, I've published over a dozen short stories and novellas; each one taught me something valuable, lessons which I then applied to the full-length.

So, I guess the answer is, I prefer shorts and novellas as ways of exploring techniques and learning more about the craft, but I do enjoy the challenge of writing full-length and there might come a day when I'm putting out longer works more frequently and shorts less so.

    2. That's an interesting point, Emma. After two full length historicals, I've just completed one novella (due to be self published soon) and am halfway through another. It's a different ball game altogether in that you have to bring the vital details across with fewer words, but equally vividly.

Challenging, but - like you - I'm learning so much.

    3. Congrats on the upcoming release.
