Cathie's Next Big Thing!

My lovely friend and fellow romantic suspense author, Rachel Brimble, has tagged me - so now I've mulled over the intriguing questions posed in The Next Big Thing. Challenging! ;-)

I'm currently working on two manuscripts, but for the sake of things, I'm going to pick one. This one, or that one? So tough!

What is the title of your next book?

My working title is Runaway, but I'm sure I'll think of something catchier closer to the time. I could fancy something like Caught in the Wild or Hot on Her Trail.

Where did the idea for the book come from?

In December 2010, I visited my gorgeous American half-sister, Tracy, in Nampa, Idaho, for the first time. Apart from it being very emotional, we also spent days exploring the area, including the stretch leading up to Garden Valley.

I was immediately hooked by the beauty of the winter countryside. One log cabin in particular caught my eye. It had 'mine' written all over it. Earlier this year, when I first had the idea to incorporate a US Navy SEAL as a hero, Idaho was the place to choose as a setting. The heroine is British, but on the run from a killer. The stunning wilderness of Garden Valley and beyond makes the perfect backdrop. And yes, that log cabin features in it, too.

What genre does your book fall under?

It's a contemporary romantic suspense.

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Oh, tricky one. I'm not very good with actors...

For Joanna, I'd probably pick Swedish actress, Noomi Rapace. Her characters are versatile and savvy - just like the fictional Joanna. A tough cookie if needs must.

As for Dan, the hero, now that's more difficult. Possibly Alexander Skarsgård. Very tall. Intelligent. Dark. Sarcastic.

Yes, I do like Swedes! ;-)

What is the one sentence synopsis for the book?

Danger is too close.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I think I'll approach several independent publishers first before I might consider self-publishing it.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

Alas, it's still not completed. I have now changed the plot three times, so had to go back to the beginning. Once I've got the version I'm happy with, it'll be completed within a few months. No doubt!

What other books would you compare this story to?

There are some wonderful romantic suspenses out there, not just military ones, but also involving lawmen and agents. Thrilling reads.

Right, I'm going to tag some of my best author friends whose writing, style and attitude I admire. Check them out!
